The Director General of the World Bank Group (WB), Shaolin Yang, who arrived in Cameroon on 16 June 2023, expressed his satisfaction during an audience granted to him by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey.

It was a pleasant moment. Having arrived in Cameroon for the first time as part of a courtesy visit, the Director General of the World Bank Group, Shaolin Yang, followed by a strong delegation, expressed his satisfaction considering the performance recorded in the management of the cooperation portfolio between Cameroon and the World Bank. The two officials availed themselves of the occasion to review cooperation between Cameroon and the Bretton Woods Institution. “I am very pleased to visit Cameroon for the first time, and I had fruitful discussions with Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey”, said the WB Director General after the audience. He pointed out that he and the MINEPAT had exchanged a lot on the prospects for optimising the performance of this cooperation portfolio.

Emphasis were laid on the strategic sectors on which the government is working and which coincide with the World Bank’s priorities. These include sustainable development, climate change, water, energy, digitisation of the economy, employment and education. Areas in which the World Bank wishes to strengthen its cooperation with Cameroon, in order to improve the living conditions of the population.

Within the World Bank Group, Shaolin Yang is in charge of numerous strategic sectors such as technology services, property management, security, general services, health and safety, institutional risk management, procurement, shared services and the provision of administrative services.
It is worth noting that this visit came at a time when Cameroon’s commitments to the World Bank are about CFAF 1,552 billion, for 19 projects.
